The last digit in the date (7) was handpunched into the dies for that year. Because of that (and it taking more than one whack of the hammer to the punch) you will have some differences in the position of the 7 with the rest of the digits. You will have high, low, near, far, canted, etc depending on how good the guy was with the punch. You see the same thing with the 6's on the 1896's. There is no added value for any of those placements, but there are some 7/7 offsets seen either left or right on the vertical portion that add a little. There is also an N/N in Cent that's a neat variety seen under the left bottom serif of the N.

I understand but this certainly an added to the 1896 far 6 so it would be nice to have an added value recongnize by Numicanada for 1897 low 7

Actually ICCS quit certing the 1896 "far 6" and Charlton and Trends will quit as well. A variety is one specific type of anomaly that will have certain markers. The "far 6" had any number of separation degrees from the 9. The first coin to be certified as a "far 6", I helped the collector get it through ICCS 12-15 years ago. At the time, we had been discussing the "variety" for at least 2 years on CCRS. The coin that was certified was actually a far, far high 6, slightly canted CCW, by using our definitions from CCRS. Since there was no way to tell how "far" a far 6 needed to be from the 9, serious collectors and ICCS gave up as it being a REAL variety. You had far, kinda far, far far, extremely far, as well as high, low and cated added in.
