1979 Canadian 5 cents error help

Postby Coinlady » Sat Feb 04, 2017 10:16 am

I'm a new coin collector. I've been helping my son. I came acrossed a 1979 5 cent coin that clearly is a error. Was hoping for some help to put a name to some of the errors. Thank you

I hope my photos are available for you to view. I'm very grateful for all input. And thank you all for not slamming me for my lack of computer skills :D

It looks like post-mint damage and not an error. It just looks like it led a hard life (maybe some of it underground) once it first hit someone's pocket. Sorry!

Thank you so much for your response! I have a couple more coins I would like feed back on. However I'll post once I gather more info. I was also wondering where in Nova Scotia you can take coins to be graded??
Thanks in advance for your help

Rather than sending coins in to be graded, post them here and you will get an opinion from some experts here and it won't cost a dime. Unless you are talking about a real scarcity (by that meaning that you could sell it for more than $100) you are wasting money sending it in to be graded .. you would be spending more for the cert than the coin would ever be worth. Getting a TPG is very expensive unless a coin is extremely high grade (65 or above) or extremely scarce. All a cert is is an "opinion" of what someone says that it is. Especially if a coin is after 1920, you would be hard pressed to find anything worth getting a TPG.

Thank you so much! I will gather the coins I have questions about. It will attempt uploading with my questions, I'm attempting to figure out a better way to obtain a clear photo. Looking back I noticed the last photos were not as clear as I had hoped :)
Thanks to all!!
