After the Province of Canada was formed in 1841 through the union of the colonies of Lower Canada and Upper Canada, the new government decided to mint coins for the new Province because coins were scarce. 1 cent 1859 - Brass
In 2018, a brass 1859 1-cent coin certified PCGS VF-20 sold at TCNC auction for $29,500 CAD. 1 year later, another example of this coin from the Cook Collection (PCGS F-12 Cleaned) sold at Heritage Auctions for $11,979 CAD.
On July 28, 2010 a 1859 1-cent Narrow 9 - Brass ICCS VG-8 Corrosion coin sold on Ebay for $14,376.59 CAD.
