This 1-dollar silver coin is also called the Death dollar. At the bottom of the totem pole on reverse, Stephan Trenka, designer for this commemorative coin, added a face that is the symbol of death in the First Nations culture.

This silver dollar, with its bold design of mountains behind a totem pole typical of Pacific coast Native Canadians, marks the centennial of British Columbia's establishment as a Crown Colony.
