Re: Super Rare Population 1 / 1935 Canada Silver Dollar ICCS SWL and REAR SWL MS-65
I've never noticed them, nor do I think that many people look. ICCS has been noting some "varieties" that haven't been formally recognized before. Once a TPG puts something on a holder, people start to notice, but you are paying more for a "variety" designation than a straight grade. More will come ...

Re: 1942 ten cents die breakdown
Yep, a nice die crack and the die wouldn't have lasted much longer. During the war years, higher grade steel was used for armament and vehicles and coin dies were toward the bottom of the list and they used them until self-destruction. Nice coin example. I forgot to comment on the doubling of the da...

Re: New Black Ring Toonies
In my opinion, what the mint says and the actual number that they put up for sale, Post Office or otherwise, are 2 or 3 different numbers. Many more are put up for sale than what they acknowledge.

Re: 1885 Newfoundland 50 Cents
I'd say VG 8-10. I think the 5 took a hit so it's misshaped. Like some other coins, both Canada and Newf, used the same dies from previous years with the last digit hand-punched in rather than making a complete new die from the master.

Re: error or what
From Wikipedia: Bouquet sou were a series of tokens that were created for use primarily within Lower Canada in the mid- to late-1830s. Roughly equivalent in value to a half penny, the "bouquet sou" were so called because they displayed a group of heraldic flowers tied together with a ribbon on their...

Re: 2006 10 year rotated core
It's pretty common from people fooling around. The core can be completely removed, as well as rotating it. All it takes is some heat and cold prperly applied. It didn't leave the mint that way for sure.

Re: TCNC auction
For those of you who didn't go to the TCNC auction site, this was the coin that was described: '425. 1882H 1¢ Obv 1 ICCS Choice About Uncirculated-55. Designated as Single Serif N, not known to exist in this date. This could be a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to acquire this rare variety. First one...

Re: TCNC auction
I talked via phone with the auctioneer and they will pull the auction after talking to the consigner. I got pretty terse emailing and talking to them, but the issue may now be off the table.

Re: TCNC auction
Well, I see that the coin in question is now up to $1000 for an, at most, value of $20 Canadian. Buyer beware! They sent me an email this AM that said that they are adding a sentence to the TCNC auction that states that some collectors believe this variety to be more common than described. YES! beca...

Re: Victorian Large Cent Mintages
I believe that we have conversed previously on roughly the same subject and my opinion has not changed. Rob did not write and research his studies from afar or using "what-ifs". There were a small number of us that used our own pops or even loans of hundreds of coins for some of the works to supply ...

TCNC auction
DO NOT bid on item #425 in the TCNC New Years auction. They are describing a rarity that is as common as you can find and had probably over a million + minted. EVERY 1882 H Obv 1 has single serif N's, not the first one seen in 40 years or unknown or the ultimate rarity. It's TCNC trying to cheat peo...

Re: Victorian Large Cent Mintages
The additional research and information has already been gleaned. Just read Rob Turners first 2 books on the Provincial Large Cents and read it thoroughly. Then go to his 3rd book that covers the 1891's. For anyone that collects large cents, his first 4 books (incl the 90's & 92's) are a MUST for an...
