Re: Canadian 1 cent oddities
Well, you were almost able to post the first coin on it's birthday. It is all crude manmade damage.

Re: My coin collection of canadian sets with some possible erros?
I'm afraid that all your pennies are just one cent, and those with no mint mark are Philadelphia, so nothing is missing. Your '64 nickel is Denver, as the mintmark is at the right base of the monument on the Rev. I saw no coins that were MS if that's what you mean by "SMS"; all circulated some from ...

More on fake toonies
Mike Marshal, the Canadian fake guru who works with the RCMP and Ebay, just posted a new newspaper article on the fake toonies and the RCMP investigations. It's good reading but, I think, vastly underestimate to number of Chinese fakes that entered Canada 2021-2023: https://globalnews.ca/news/108505...

Maybe the nickel plating came loose from the steel/copper and deposited a little in his ear?

Re: 2024 10 cent
It looks like someone sneezed or drooled at first glace. Is it raised or just discolored? Was it direct from the mint or circulated?

Re: 1890-H Flying I?
I may have spoken too early on the variety of your 1890. I remembered that Rob Turner wrote a GREAT study on the 1890 & 92's and decided to look. However, your photo is not clear enough to see the other letters that may be involved and what's clear on the 'top" of the D in Dei. Some of the varieties...

Re: 1890-H Flying I?
"The 1890 was the first to use the Obv 3 bust type, but the Mint retained the use of the legend from 1876 to 1888, which has the small cross-bar E's. However, the top of the I in Dei has been recut several ways and the left foot of the A is often missing." Those line are from Griffin and his descrip...

Re: 1963 Doubling and Chip
I agree, mechanical/machine doubling. You can clearly see the offset caused by the die being loose in the holder and then moving slightly as the die comes up off the planchet. The die will stamp coins with that much offset or more, as it gets looser and looser and able to move a little more. Once th...

Re: 1859 Canada large cent.
It's just an 1859 DP2 (repunched # 2).... why they put a "D" in the name, I have no idea. You'll see the underpunch outside left of the upper loop and a large chunk left at 8:00 off the knob. They were made early in the mintage year so the vine at leaf 7 is almost all there.

Re: Fake or authentic?
I would say a local coin store. If it is silver, then it's worth about $20, with a TPG being 2X or 3X times what it is probably worth. Do some google searches and look at the bridge of the nose, the physical lettering and the surface or field of the coin. Don't send it in.
