Re: 1996 Penny/Dime mutant coin. Help please?
If im not mistaken , if it is a dime Planchet would it not be magnetic??? Specification from the mint website. 1979 - 1999 Composition: 99.9% nickel Weight (g): 2.07 Diameter (mm): 18.03 Thickness (mm): 1.22 So it would be magnetic because that high composition of nickel is magnetic. You could have...

Re: 1996 Penny/Dime mutant coin. Help please?
I have done and continue to do a fair bit of google searching. I have found what you are speaking of (plating of coins for jewelry etc) but what I can tell is that a plating would lead it to being magnetic. It is not magnetic. Not even weakly... The weight is half way between a dime and a penny. Se...

Re: my friend found this in the register
You’re quite rare to find in the states. It’s the only coin that’s magnetic and so it gets caught up on the magnetic strip that they put in the coin counters. After literally looking through millions of US cents i’ve may be only found two over the years. It’s really not worth much but people sure lov...

Re: found these today
Your getting a nice small collection of coins so far. You do realise though that nearly any pocket change coin is only worth face value unless it is either silver or an error. You might want to add to that list the 99.9 Canadian nickels are worth over face and there’s a market for them people will ...

Thanks for clarifying that I forgot all about that. But either way there’s at least one US dollars worth of silver and either one of them!

Are you finding those from a place where you work? It’s pretty exciting to get older coins.

Re: Pre-1966 Pennies
Thanks for the link Henry. By my understanding after reading it, I think it states that coins could be melted with a special permit and coins that are bent or defaced are not legal tender. Or did I read that wrong? You are correct. I should state that I’m from the United States and not a Canadian b...

Re: Pre-1966 Pennies
In Canada, it is illegal to melt legal currency. Does the penny still fall under legal currency? I've talked to local scrappers in our area and none of them will take copper pennies. Let us know if there is something I'm missing I do believe you’re correct. And I think it’s actually illegal to melt...
