Re: Storing Banknotes

Besides my humble feedback, I agree with Nota_phil on most points. He is definitely the go to person on this website for banknote history, info and advice. Always very knowledgeable and passionate about banknotes.
Cheers Phil

Re: Storing Banknotes

Storing graded notes will be fine in a Safety Deposit box. Being that the notes are sealed / airtight in the protective sleeve, you are good to go. I have my graded notes in a locked safe, and have for years. Only if storing the raw notes in the same box, then yes I would add silica gel packs & chan...

Re: 1933 BU UNC what is the grade???

Hi there
Saw pics. Certainly a better grade, but not brilliant (red). Also pics are dark and agreed...need to remove from flip.
Couldn't give an honest opinion with current pics. Suggest getting "in hand" opinions from other collectors whose opinion you respect.

Re: Trying to verify if this 1881 CC Morgan Silver Dollar is genuine ?

After more examination & consultation with some other Morgan collectors, the consensus is that it's a China replica. based on your best photo's.... Mind you, photo's can never substitute " coin in hand" examination....Curious to know the result...please post either way to help other collectors. Alth...

Re: Trying to verify if this 1881 CC Morgan Silver Dollar is genuine ?

Agreed with the above comments. The L in "Pluribus" looks weird, but could be a die issue. Also, considering the amount of wear, I would expect the tips of the Eagles wings to show significant wear as well..... Start with the basics and go from there. Weight should be 26.73 grams,38 millimetres in d...

Re: 1954 $5 banknote

As a Printer myself, I agree that the 2 sides are simply misaligned. Each side is in register but just somewhat misaligned from front to back. The bindery worker operating the cutter that day could have paid a little more attention to help minimize the issue (trim more off the right. less off the le...

Re: $2 Canadian Banknotes

Cool yes and interesting. Obvious fold in the middle of notes....VF=EF notes. Don't think these notes have any premium on their own, but as a group maybe...... Hey Phil Notes any insight to offer ?

Re: Bank of Canada notes to be graded

First off, are these notes worth grading considering expense and effort involved? Assuming they are, for Canadian notes, I feel comfortable with BCS ( Banknote Certification Service) In Kitchener, Ontario. Their rates are reasonable and their grading standard is more conservative for Canadian notes ...

Re: Trying to understand value of bank notes

Assuming your note is Thiessen-Crow signatures & uncirculated, then yes you are in the right price value column. If you go to the same banknotes tab on this website, you will find a "grading" section that will help you determine the grade of your note. Uncirculated in itself has many grade levels as...

Re: 1888 Newfoundland 5 cents - Obverse # 3

Based on photos, I would agree with your grade range at approx VF-20 / 30 cleaned. Price guide here suggests $300 for VF-20 then jumps to $882 for EF-40. Also on this site, you can see the average historical sold prices. Suggest doing a search on e-Bay as well for this coin & look at the "Sold" hist...

Good catch. I sent a complaint to eBay as well. It's garbage like this that make people shy away from the hobby.
Even if somebody knew & purchased anyway as a filler, that's just wrong....
