Waffle face queen on 1964 Nickel

Interesting coin I thought I would share.

Can a waffle iron do this? Any chance this happened at the mint while the coin was hot?

Re: 2012 Rose Gold Plated Dime in Proof set ?

Ok. I like the "finish varnish" story. however in my other set of the same silver proof coins for 2012 the dime is perfectly silver and no toning. So did they only do some of the dimes for that year? If it was an experiment it was on only a portion of that years dimes. Also the quarter, fifty cent a...

Re: 2012 Rose Gold Plated Dime in Proof set ?

Okay I love that people are still thinking about this problem.SO if we go down the copper theory the content is not 5% copper in this coin. I am attaching the card and you will see it is supposed to be 99.99% silver. That is not much copper to turn this colour. I would be .001%. I fit is a copper co...

Re: 2012 Rose Gold Plated Dime in Proof set ?

Just so you know , I have just sent an email off to the mint explaining the situation to the quality control people asking for an opinion. If I hear anything back , I will post it here for everyone to learn what they say is the cause.

Re: 2012 Rose Gold Plated Dime in Proof set ?

Sorry not buying the edge air theory either. Look at the twonny directly above the Dime. It is silver and gold foil. Yet the silver part has no rose tinge to it. Why would the supposed air leak only come in from one edge and not travel evenly through out the case. Also there is no movement of air in...

Re: 2012 Rose Gold Plated Dime in Proof set ?

Just thought of another question that disputes the post mint exposure theory. If all the coins are made from the same silver alloy 99.99 % silver then why are not all the other coins in this set turning this colour, if it is either an air or sun issue? All the silver coins in the two sets have had t...

Re: 2012 Rose Gold Plated Dime in Proof set ?

I have not bought the sun theory for the following reasons.Strange idea that it is due to sun since I bought both these proof sets directly from the mint and then placed them directly into a plastic bin with a lockable lid and it has remained unopened for nine years on a metal shelf in my basement. ...

2012 Rose Gold Plated Dime in Proof set ?

I own two 2012 Silver proof sets. One has a normal pure silver dime and the other one has a dime that appears to be rose gold plated on both sides. The description says it should be pure silver with no gold. When you look at the picture of it and compare it to the quarter next to it you can see the c...

Re: USSR rare coin with mint error worth regrading?

Thanks Bill, you answered most of my questions. Because it is a machine error then PCGS would not put anything in the details. So it it is graded as well as should be and the machine error should not affect the price. It just makes it more unique. Maybe a bomb went off and shook the machine while th...

Re: USSR rare coin with mint error worth regrading?

Of course the resolution is too high for using any of the PCGS files so I did a screen capture and was able to upload it. It is the obverse that is Double Die. I think if it was a variety PCGS would have labelled it so like they do my other coins. It is the second highest in the POP charts and any o...

USSR rare coin with mint error worth regrading?

Does the mint error add value or detract from this rare USSR coin? 1942 15 Kon Fedorin I have had the coin graded by PCGS and it was graded as a MS 63. This is the second highest in the population charts. Also rare enough I can find no pricing for this level of the coin. The coin certification number...

1943 Newfoundland DIme with either PMD or MD , Help Determine Please

Hi, I am new to this forum and needing some help on two types of damage I see on a rather nice coin. I will post pictures and you will first see the strike thorugh between the 9 and 4 and secondarily the accumulation of metal above the 1 AND 3. Any information or insights would be greatly appreciate...
