Re: Straight clipped planchet?
The Blakesley Effect is often absent in the case of large clips. Because the dies impact is concentrated on a much smaller piece of metal, boosting the effecting striking pressure. This increased pressure overcomes the lack of a proto-rim and generates a normal design rim.

Re: quarter damaged during striking
Very nice strike through with provinance, don’t try to remove the coin, keep everything as is.
Personally, I would have guessed struck through grease, but scrap metal it is.

Re: Straight clipped planchet?
Looks like a legitimate straight clip to me.
This can happen when the sheet being punched out for planchets goes off course and the edge is punched out, leaving a straight edge.

Re: U.S. error penny
I agree with coinguy. I can see at least 6 bubbles on your coin, one of them just happens to be above the T.
A rule of thumb for sending anything to a TPG, value of item should be at least $100-$150 to make it worthwhile.

I have seen people listing them for $200-$400, whether they sell for that, IDK.

What a great find for you, congratulations! Your replacement bills will hold a premium over the regular bills. Either way, free money. Go to the banknotes section on this site to look up values for each one, just assume each as fine to very fine. I would not take them to the bank, they will give you...

Any damage done to a coin after it leaves the mint is considered Post Mint Damage. Your coin has lots of PMD, no errors.

Re: 2011 errors!..
Not an error Jay. After it left the mint, the plating was punctured by something, this let moisture enter underneath the plating, leading to the corrosion.
Your coin is 10 years old, it could have been used and rerolled several times before it came into your possession.

Re: How are serial numbers put on bills?
So if no indentation is left and assuming someone could thoroughly remove all traces of ink, how could anyone discern between a bill that has been altered and one that has never been imprinted in the first place?
