Re: 1891 Large cent

It's an 1891 Obv 2, SL/SD and a nice coin. On the tilted photo, it looks VF-30, but the head-on looks like VF-20. The missing serif on the N in Regina is normal for the 1891's, but there are some repunched. Your coin Trends at more than $170, so nice pick up. To tell the difference between an Obv 2 ...

Re: Canadian $1 chips and doubling

There is no "chip" affecting the N, etc. It is post-mint damage. I see no doubling, just excessive reflection on the tapered strike.

Looks normal with environmental staining. Not from mint.

Re: 1859 1c DDO

There was a great deal of repunching dies that were getting tired. The actual presses from the RCM were set to press Brit half pennies that were copper. These were bronze and 1/3 thinner than the Brit coinage. The dies for the Canadian cents took a beating because of the excess pressure. Many letter...

Re: I think I found doubling

I think either die deterioration doubling or Mechanical, neither of which put the coin at any premium.

Re: Need info on this medal/token please help!

Well, I see that it's up for sale on EBay by the OP. A medal like that, but Yukon, sold for $3 on Ebay or Etsy. It was part of a whole set for each Province's flower that is for sale for a little over $100.

Re: 1996 2 dollar die crack

If you are talking about the anomaly/line from her bodice to the crown, it is on top of the design... it didn't bother the strike. I take it that the "line" is raised, but doesn't look at all like a die crack. I think that it post-mint damage and maybe applied to the well-worn coin. The line also mi...

Re: 1870 50 Cents

Well, the 50 cent guru for 50 cents is/was "pginrh", but I don't know if Paul is still collecting. He was the guru for George 50 cents and wrote some great articles on them and all the varieties/dies, including the Charlton variety sections. I don't know if he ever stepped back to do anything with V...

Re: Calgary stampede coins

What info do you want/need? Go to CoinsandCanada to get a little info. If it's prices that you want, go to Ebay and type a search. Then go to "advanced" in upper right corner of the search page, then scroll down to "sold" items. You will find out what has sold when and how much. Neither coin has don...

Yes, I've certainly heard of grifting and grifters. I hold them in the same esteem as people who bad-mouth accepted facts and research in Canadian numismatics. I prefer to answer questions with facts on internet coin sites and nothing more.

Re: New CANADA 1882 H Cent variety?

There were only a couple of the '82's that came through with single serifs on the N's. They are actually scarcer than those that have been repunched to correct them. You've got a nice coin.

Beautiful coin and nice varieties, but I'm not a 5 cent guy. Congrats! It's very nice that PCGS noted some of the anomalies on the cert.... worth some $$$$$

Re: New CANADA 1882 H Cent variety?

Yes, these are relatively hard to find, but not scarce. I have seen quite a few of these. The 1881's and 82's started out using the 1876 dies and matrix/submatrices. The matrix that struck this die had pieces chipped and broken off parts of the letters. As such, C's, D's and some serifs are unclear ...

Re: Counterfeit toonies and others Mike Marshal

I am more than able to fully understand what you say or trying to say. Mike has worked closely with the RCMP, local law and even the US House of Representatives to help form and frame laws against counterfeiting. Mike didn't get into this because a friend got "grifted". He was working with the RCMP ...
