Is there an acceptable way to clean silver, nickles, or copper coins?

Acetone i guess. It depends on why you're cleaning it.

DON'T clean your coins, unless you have no choice. Go to the archives here and see how many say NO NO NO for cleaning any coin! If you are metal detecting, a gentle rinse in warm distilled water may help, but you can still damage just with the handling.

Lots of people will just say don't and most of the time I'm one of them, but a coin cleaned from plastic decay or bubble gum, even lead paint is better cleaned than as is... if , if it worth cleaning. Because all the things I mentioned will continue to decay that coin and that's not good.
But honestly very few are worth cleaning. The right answer is usually not to clean because folks think the patina takes away from silver and copper coins and that is incorrect as they are meant to age gracefully and be left as is.
Long story short, if it won't continue to corrode the coin, then leave as is.
