Found this amongst several Canadian large cents. The damage is deep but doesn’t look man made. The location on the piece looks suspect but I was surfing trying to find another like it and did eventually but lost it in my searches. Had a very similar spot but moved closer to the centre and a bit left. And opinion on obverse 1 or 2. Posting the other side in next post since file size was too large

The damage is clearly visible on this side. Didn’t notice when I first got the lot of them. Had been in a plastic bag for many years. Opened up a couple days ago and found this sight. Finally got time to ask everyone’s opinions on it. Never thought I would be collecting coins but have been enjoying the opportunity to learn so much history on Canadian currency. Gave me a new respect for everyone on here.

Had to retake the photo to get it smaller to post. Sorry I’m new to posing anything online.

Trying to show the depth at a angle. I searched and searched trying to find something similar thinking there must be tons of coins with similar damages but anything similar types of damage is usually done trying to put a hole for a string. This is everything those are not when it’s in your hand.

It is a damaged coin, you can see where the damage has affected the reverse.
There is no way for that to happen during the striking of the coin.
Too bad as it affects the value of your Vickie.

Thank you. I thought I had a oddball. Fortunately I still have several more large cents to check out. It’s truly fascinating how small of detail people look at in these coins.

You have an Obv 2, well worn, and someone tried to put a hole in it, and even failed at making a good hole. You can see in Gratia that the tool squiggled all over the place taking out the lettering. Keep it as an oddity but it's really valueless.

Thank you. It’s hard to know exactly when you firs star looking at these coins. I had never heard of a large cent till I saved 9 from the garbage at a job I was at along with several other old coins and several old bills as well. I have been doing a bit here and a bit there of research but you guys sped this one up tremendously.
