Hey guys I'm just curious if circulated Canadian coins to add to make sets are worth the time collecting or does it add or take away value? I'm new to the coin collecting community and would appreciate some advice on what would make a coin set and if anyone out there that is doing the same that might want to trade or even buy that's all good to
Thanks

Please forgive the crude packaging I'm just putting them together and just thought maybe I'm waisting my time haha!

It looks like the coins are free to move around some in your holders, sometimes directly against a staple. There are album pages that would look much neater.

Yes I agree, but for now its only a temporary fix until I go get the proper holders or sleeves lol I agree it's almost laughable but it is working for the time being ..

Thanks

Putting them in sets yourself does not add any value.
It is still only worth the total value of each coin.
You would be better off putting them in an album or 2x2’s

The answer to this really depends on what you are seeking to do and what your 'sets' are. If you are just looking to have one coin of each type for each year, then you can do whatever you like. The sets you are putting together could be kept together in better packaging later, but you could also just have sleeve for each type of coin (and the mylar flips would be a good option) and have consecutive years for each coin. I would say most keep like coins together - eg a binder with sleeves/flips of pennies, or dimes, etc. There is value in 'organizing' in one way or the other - you would know more of what you have. Would they increase your value of sets? Coins often have differing values within a year, so having a set by year could be basically the same, or increased by adding a good coin that is more rare. It would be good, if you have not already to pick up a copy of the Charlton coin guide - even one that is not totally new would give you an idea of what to look for on your coins. The values in the guides change each year, but the circulation coin values probably change less, BUT you would see what coins are of value and what could add to your collection. As sets. it is likely for sale purposes that people would like sets that are similar in quality, or would just be buying all to get something they want or need, but the quality would matter.

Also important to note that most people without mentors of some sort, or an inspiration, likely collect a lot of things until they stumble on what they really like. There is no correct way to do it. Some look for only mint state, and others circulation coins. Some collect only Canuck currency, and others have a flair of the traveller, wanting to see all countries. I have a fair amount of RCM stuff, but pick and choose based on love or low mintage; I love pennies and $2 bills, but I would not say I am a specialist like some of the collectors here. Bill in Burl, for example, knows a lot, but is clearly a penny specialist.
