1996 Nickel with a dot

Can anyone please tell me what does the dot between the d and the A mean? Is it an error?Image

It's a die chip, maybe from a rust pit or just a chip on the die which will leave a "dot"..

Common on the chromium plated dies. It starts off a a pin hole and the size slowly increase with each strike.
It is just part of the minting process but has no real numistmatic value. There are probably thousands out there
the same.
