Found this in my pocket about 40 years ago. It's been in my sock drawer ever since. I've never cleaned it. I just tried searching this condition and didn't find anything. Any thoughts, opinions, info or evaluations would be appreciated. Thanks

Broken/split planchet. Their QC must have been napping that day.

Thanks, Bill
The Mint is one of the few places where QC napping is acceptable.
Would I be correct in assuming this defect is rare but doesn't have much value?

They are nice to keep as an oddity, and some error collectors might be interested, but I doubt it would pay for a Starbuck's double-latte with tip.

This is called a "ragged fissure".
But many collectors uses also "ragged clip".

You can find some information here:

https://www.error-ref.com/fissures_-_ragged___smooth/

Recently similar coins have been sold on Ebay with sold prices between about 30 to 80$cnd.

You have a nice one. The extended fissure is well visible.
