It's not the proper definition of "rare", but it's a great error to hold onto, an off-center strike. I'll let one of the error experts chime in to what exactly it entails. Nice find

How can I get a value on this coin? Would an appraiser put a value on a coin like that?

thanks

There are 2 people on this site who would give you an honest price for the coin, if you plan to sell it. They are error specialists. Yes, an appraiser would give you a price, but it might cost you. JUst let folks on here that you would be willing to sell. I don't know about certifying it and the cost involved.

This type of offset strike is worth 20.00 to 40.00 dollars and hard to sell

I agree with john1000 for the price estimation.
You can take a look at Ebay listing history with keyword "off center". There's many of them listed.

The off center ratio is small. It's quite easy to find one on the market. So depending of your selling price, it may be hard to find a buyer.

The error section of this site shows a 1966 penny with a <5% off-strike to be valued at $4. Are valuations on this site up to date?

I don't think error prices listed in CaC is representative of the actual market.

So I'm quite confident we can get much more than 4$ for this coin.

A quick view of the market (Ebay and other auctions) give a better view.

There can be such variation in pricing on auction sites that there is a broad range of what might be called market pricing. Willing buyer, willing seller I suppose. That's why I was hoping that CaC might provide some expert guidance.

Note also the filled die (plugged 6) in the date in the coin.

The plugged die is known as a broken post which doesn’t really add any value.
There would be thousands of them the same, depending on when during the
run that the post broke off. It would be like this until the die was retired.

There's another canadian reference on Coin Error.

And there's a section on pricing. Not up to date, but instructive.

I recommend can surf this site. Very informative.

Struck 5% off-centre, with partial collar. You don't see that many from 1966, and it looks uncirculated (maybe with some spotty toning or a fingerprint). so in that grade, it should be worth around $35 to $50, depending how bad someone wants it.

Generally, with errors, the more off-centre the strike is, the more valuable it becomes.

That's great to hear!!....When I was a kid I went to shows and collected a ton of coins till I was about 14yrs old. This is the first time since then that I looked at my collection ( 57 and retired now) I just started to inventory my coins...I think I'm hooked again!!
