Hi, I don’t know what they worth, but I actually have two, one Specimen 66, and other Specimen 64, graded by Iccs. Actually the only both known and doesn’t figure out in the Charlton’s catalogue…. I have bought at Monnaie Canada for a couple of thousand dollars… thank you so much for your interest.

The CACs site lists prices for circulated and uncirculated coins of Canada.

For the Canadian Penny there were two main types for 2012.
Nothing noted for Specimen versions, but there are specimen sets that were broken open and some submitted.

full specimen sets for 2012 are listed on ebay
Usually about $100, and someone is selling a single penny from a specimen set for about $15.

Looking at older auction data, maybe worth a bit more than the MS values, but not much...

few years ago, the 2005 P non mag cent first 2 examples sold at auction for around 20 K then a whole wack of this coin came onto the market place, now settle to around 2000.00. These are just a wrong planchet strike, like this 2012 variety first to market will get best price and as more is looked for and if more is found the price will drop as did 2005 P version

Indeed - I can't find anything to say the RCM had specimen coins that were non-magnetic from this year.

Of course most here would know the magnetic and non-magnetic pennies were made with different materials, and the steel in a magnetic penny would make a magnet stick to it, but copper not so much. The two circulation strike penny types had slightly different weights. Usually specimen sets have information on each of the coins, but this coin was removed from the original set, so that information is not available to use to follow up. Wording in Charlton and other places, however, indicated that none of the RCM sets (uncirculated, proof, or specimen sets) for 2011 or 2012 contained non-magnetic (the copper version) coins.

Of course there would be some ways to tell if an example is a copper coin, but you cannot test sound when it is sealed, and you would not want to do anything else to the coin itself. You would hope that it would not be, but a magnetic coin can be be demagnetized by a degausser.

I am definitely curious. Anyone have another source for different information?

On the RCM website the 2012 specimen penny is made of plated steel planchet, these two coins seems to confirm some copper version were struck for these specimen set.. An quick XRF would confirm for sure, the soft flips should be no problem for an XRF test , not sure if ICCS is using an XRF now.
