1981 PMD or struck through?

Post by Mint State » Thu Sep 26, 2024 1:02 pm

I have another cent here that I'm curious if it is PMD or a strike through?
Is there a way to definitively diagnose a struck through coin verses PMD?
Just wondering, if a coin suffered such a major hit post mint on Rev... would there not be signs on the Obv too?

Thanks!

Hello! :)
Can you show the edge of the coin?

I think that it's post-mint damage (gouged) and the copper alloy of the coin is oxidizing or chemically changing. They made 1.2 BILLION of the '81's so it's still worth 1 cent.
