2008 - Broke-back Beavers

Found two 2008 nickels with a die-crack almost cutting through the hump on the back of the beaver.

Very strange place for a die crack. Is it raised?

I am assuming it is a deteriorated die cracking in a weak point, as both coins pictured have near identical raised cracks. I found pictures of similar, usually smaller cracks online so it looks like it was something that started small and grew over time. You can see a bit of metal deformation just above the defect where the edge of the beaver meets the flat so there must have been some serious outward pressure in that point.
