Back Story on the 1965 Canadian Nickel??

I was wondering if anyone could give me the back story on how we ended up with the now known 2-3 varieties of the 1965 Canadian Nickel. When was it produced? Was it an error? If someone was looking to find one would it be best to look in BU unopened bank rolls or PL sets? I would love to know more about it. Maybe someone knows of a website where they would share this kind of information?? Thanks so much.
