1957 nickel - dye chip?

Post by car541995 » Mon Apr 03, 2023 8:13 am

Hello, I'm very new to coin collecting. I found this 1957 nickel with a dye chip - think that is what it is called. I can't find this error/variety anywhere. Is this a common error? Is it worth holding onto? Any help from the community is appreciated. Thank you

Yes, it is a "die chip", but also some heavy damage across the date, post-mint

A DIE chip is not an error, it is part of the minting process.
They are quite common especially in since1947 when they started using chrome plating on the dies.
No numismatic value but hold onto it if you like as an example.
