2004 molten metal.

Post by Elmo » Mon Jun 02, 2025 12:56 am

Almost tossed it away. Looked like it was in a urinal, so rusted. Then I noticed that it was a true mutant. Should I try to clean it up or? Is it worth having it valued? What do you think.

What do. I think?
I think it is a badly corroded dime worth 10 cents.
What you see is the nickel outer layer eaten away exposing the copper inner layer.
It would be classed as a damaged dime.

Coin guy I agree that its missing metal, but it is the underlying metal that was missing. Yes the plating in spots is missing and the inner core is rusting, but it looks like it was plated over a damaged planchet. The strike on both sides is mostly complete with the exception of the iron core being exposed. How would the core rot out leaving an altered sunken surface? Sorry if you glanced at it and blew it off, but I disagree with your expert evaluation. Thanks anyhow.

I would go along with coinguy. It’s a badly damage coin. Elmo if what you mean by having it valued is having it graded I think you will be disappointed by the results.
It wouldn’t have much value but if it holds your interest it’s worth keeping.
Most of my collecting is stuff that when I’m gone my family will probably spend at face value :D

It's just a rusty, damaged coin, nothing else.
