1941 silver 50 cent coin.

It looks like there is a face behind the face on the coin. What are your thoughts? Thank you.

If you take the coin out of the holder, that faint impression will disappear. The coin has shifted to the right in the holder and the hazy image to the left of the monarch is on the inside of the mylar.

OK, I was wrong on the cloudy image. It's caused by PCV contamination from the holder. Someone had the coin in a holder or album that was some form of PVC rather than mylar. Regardless, it's PMD and not something at the mint.

I have 3 others in the same plastic. No effect like this on any of them.

Well, maybe your thread coin was stored in a PVC-containing album or holder before you got it. Every place on your coin that has any high spots, which would have touched whatever coating it was, shows the contamination. I'd do some acetone soaking if I were you. The coin is just scrap silver as is.

You are right. I took the coin out cleaned it and no more image. Thank you.
