I reported the "heads/tails" to the moderator a hour after it appeared. I even sent an email to admin as well to remove the childish stunt. That's not welcome on any site.
thank you...
It does seem to have been removed now.

Good evening

I studied the icing on this 2$ 2012 and I put you 2 links on which I found 13 dies with differences in the icing.
There are probably still other different dies but I stopped at 13 dies.

This was the first experience of icing individual dies for circulation coins by the MRC.

It's in French but it's understandable with google translate.

1° links: The discussion.
I started this study on page #2 on Wed Oct 30, 2013.

Well, "error" collectors may chomp at the bit, but I doubt it. It is just poor quality control and poor workmanship that can cause 10 or more "differences" on a relatively low-mintage coin. If people want to save them fine, but a premium, if any, is questionable. It is certainly not a "variety", but could be classified as an error (multitudinous) by stretching the definition.

Whatever the cause of that extra sail, there have been few of them, and only ms reported at auction.
In this case - the coin is pretty beat up and does not include the extra shelf like sail.

Well, there really is NOT any missing sail. All of the sails are there. It's just that they put the frosting/icing all over the place on different dies. As Castor has stated, he has found 13 different "places" where the frosting or icing has been done to the die. Sometimes in the air/sky, sometimes actually "on" the sails, and sometimes in the spaces between the lanyards and the sails themselves and they varied the depth of the edge frosting/icing. There never was a "missing sail". That moniker was included in the error/variety section of this site and that's what the submitter named it, missing sail or not. The name has caught on, but there is no missing sail.

I agree with you Bill. My mint rolls of 2021 dimes are chock full of quality control issues and quite embarrassing for the mint. I have complete rolls with the icing and what appears to be whizzing all over the coloured versions. If folks want to collect junk, they can spend a fortune.

Just curious Mcahoose, are you here for expert opinions or just to disagree with the experts?

In 2012 you could buy a 5-Pack from the mint for $10.00. I had a look through the one I bought and found one with an "extra sail". Interesting that only one coin had the "extra sail" in the package and the rest are normal.

Well, to me, it looks like all of them have "frosting" where ever it wants and all have frosting in the air space that they call the "extra" sail. I'm tired of talking about an error that isn't.

Not an error in any way, shape or form. It is a variety in which case there
are probably tens of thousands of them produced.

You must understand the RCM in Winnipeg produces coins at industrial speed and only to an OK standard, Ottawa mint a different story collector coins are double struck maybe 5 coins a minute all this care and these coins rarely grade a 67 or 68. The Winnipeg presses for small coins are running around 200 or more a minute, their job is to produce a ms 63 coin at best and use the dies till they are worn down so as long as the coin serves it"s purpose and kept to a certian costs, that"s it, that is why some of our circulating coins looks so crappy and as the dies wear you get many variables. I can almost assure you if you purchase these small varieties coins for say 20 to 30 bucks, 30 years from now you will have a tough time getting your money back, major errors a different story, happy collecting
