Kurt wondering where you get new stacks

Post by Wuz » Sun Jul 14, 2024 7:45 pm

I've gone to different banks looking for a stack of 100 uncirculated bills I have never been able to get any they have all been circulated ... how do I get 100 uncirculated bills in like 5's, 10's, and 20's?

I don't know: if you find some place, let us know!

At one time, you could order bundles/stacks (100) from your local bank branch. I did this 7 years ago with some success (looking for Commemorative $10) but after that it became very tough. I think I was more successful with the Commemoratives because the tellers understood my request (or something) but after that it became impossible. In 2018, when the new vertical TENS arrived I only got new UNC notes 50% of the time (if I was lucky) & then it dropped (once the BoC stopped issuing new notes a year in & kept using the MacDonald TEN). Same for the $5 & $20.00.

Since the pandemic & half (or more) staff being replaced with new trainees, it's just too crazy trying to get cooperation. I need an interpreter & communicating my needs goes downhill so very fast. I used to get some UNC notes from the exchange outlets as well but have only met grumpy staff in the past year. I quit trying. Good luck!

I just placed an order at my home branch for "new stacks" of FIVES & TWENTIES and was told that they cannot promise me new stacks. This is new (7 years ago, in 2017 I could order new stacks). Then they told me that they would try & usually I got new stacks. Now they told me it won't matter what they say, "they get what they get."

I'll update you how it turns out.

I received four $5.00 (100) bundles + two $20.00 (100) bundles. They postponed the first date they set for me to pick this up. I went into my branch when it was the least busy (I was the only client at their counter). She asked me for my driver's license after I used my bank card to ID myself (that's a first). She typed at her terminal for about 10 minutes before retrieving a bag with my order (of 6 bundles). She put all the bundles through her counter. My results are below:

The FIVES:
All UNC & in good condition (no scratched holographic windows- which is quite common).
3 of the 4 bundles had very jumbled serial numbers & position numbers all over the place. The 4th bundle was pretty consecutive with just a few jumps/gaps in the numbering.
*ONE 3 digit 2 cycle repeater INT6438643 :D

The TWENTIES:
All extremely circulated & in very poor (G pieces/corner missing - VF at best) condition. No UNC notes & plenty with the BS_ or BI_ prefix (issued in 2012). Very disappointing. I have had much better notes from just a drop in withdrawal of 100 Twenties. The best note might have been EF & no FZT (or beyond) with the "Lane-Macklem" signature (or newest releases). I haven't seen a newer issued L-M signed $20 for months.
*ONE 4 digit radar BSD4329234 [shame the "9" wasn't a "1" as that would have made this $20 my first ladder radar if it was 4321234  ]

So you could try your branches but I must say it was quite the rigmarole for such a low yield. In the past I have withdrawn 1000 notes and not had 1 radar. Chances are likely you'll have a bit of a "mixed bag" result.
