Alberta Prosperity Certificate

I had never seen one of these before yesterday and now it's mine. I guess the Social Credit government of Alberta in 1936 tried to stimulate the economy during the depression with these. The idea being that if you didn't spend it in the first week then you had to purchase a one cent stamp and affix it to the back, then the second week another one cent stamp etc. The program was supposed to run for two years but was cancelled after one. A lot of places, would not accept them including the government. They made a total of 239,000.

Very cool. August 5th is my anniversary, but I don't think my wife would appreciate it as much as I do.
