2 Diget Radar 3 cycle repeater

Post by Rebel1 » Sun May 29, 2022 9:59 am

I am trying to come up with a ballpark evaluation for my Dominion of Canada 1911 note that has a few extra things going for it. The serial number is 878878J. I would estimate the grade to be VF-20 / 25 but have not been successful in my research to find what the Radar / Repeater adds in value? I apologize for the photo, not the best representation

It's not a serial number.
It's a sheet number.
There are four notes with exactly the same number.
And with lower printing runs radars and repeaters are far more common on these older notes.

thanks for the reply. So given your explanation are you suggesting there is no $ premium for this note?

You could look at auction prices for the suffix letter J.

I noticed that PMG refers to the number as a Serial Number? on the holder. In any case I have not seen a single radar for this year let alone 2 digit config. I guess my question is still unanswered.

Send to BCS for grading then place in a major Canadian Auction like Coin Expo or TCNC major sale, not their monthly sale, this note will be well worth the grading fees, you just need the auctioneer to push a rare radar. Good luck !

Thanks for the suggestion, I may do just that. You mentioned BCS for grading which I have used before. What about using PMG? I have also used them and was happy with there service. Do you think there is any advantage of using one over the other? Just sayin.

Most likely PMG would grade this note higher but as you know shipping and insurance to US is much higher cost, if selling in a US action like Heritage for sure

While "sheet" number may be technically correct, the collecting world generally understands it to be a "serial number". 4 of those numbers were printed; A,B,C,D as TBH pointed out.
I would say there is potential premium for the radar number but being a repeater is somewhat irrelevant when it's a radar number.
