Hi guys, I'm new to collecting banknotes and stuff, so please be kind if I ask stupidly.

I was trying to look up a serial number of a $100 banknote here on coinsandcanada and the number wasn't found, even with checking a few different times entering the number one by one.

It's a issue of 2004 $100, Jenkins/Dodge signature, serial number BKA4057015.

What can you tell me about it?

Thanks in advance.

Hi “sunnyblueskies” and welcome to the C&C Discussion Board. We all have to start somewhere so I believe that there’s no stupid questions (unless you’re asking about stamps or something completely off topic & don’t qualify it as such).

So re: your $100 BKA note. The most important aspect of your note (from a collector’s perspective) is the condition and prefix. The serial number is also important if its low (under 1000), has a pattern (like abcdcba or radar) or was deemed an insert replacement. Most catalogues just note the specific prefixes that were deemed inserts ( not the regular run prefixes) because hundreds of prefixes were released. So in short, your BKA is a regular prefix (regular #) and has no premium as 10,000,000 were issued. If your note is perfect as the day it was printed it would have a minor premium over Face Value (FV).

Hope that helps!

Awesome, thanks.
Is there a website somewhere which gives all serial numbers/pre fixes? Not just the lower number issues prefixes?

I promise, I will never ask about stamps. Hahahahaha

I don’t know of a website but there is a catalogue that has all the info you need.
“Canadian Government Paper Money” by Charlton. There is also lots of other info
included that may help.
