Show & Tell: Near Complete 1973 $1 prefix set

Post by q60driver » Sun Sep 17, 2023 11:06 am

This set includes every common 2 letter prefix, every common 3 letter prefix (Lawson/Bouey and Crow/Bouey signatures), every changeover note, every asterisk replacement, every X replacement, every test note, and every steel and lithograph variety. The two notes I'm missing are *FB and *MD asterisk replacements. The red book is all asterisk replacements, the middle book is all 2 letter prefixes, and the last book is all 3 letter prefixes. 426 out of a possible 428 notes.

About 80% of this set is various grades of UNC. 19% are AU and 1% are EF (I keep my eye out to upgrade the several EF's).

Someday I hope to complete this set, if I'm able. Collecting is so satisfying!

Please enjoy!

Cool, how many years have you been at it?
Looks like those last 2 bills are pricey
Have you had a chance to buy either one or seen them?

It's has been several years since I started. I bought a large bundle of random prefixes and there turned out to be quite a few different ones so that's where it all started. I got quite lucky and found a mismatched serial number in that bundle as well.

The last 2 prefixes I need have not come up recently but I am hopeful. They will need to be a low enough grade for me to buy.

I have made some recent additions to this collection including a Specimen note, almost all uncut sheet prefixes, and I have also acquired *FB Replacement. I am now only missing the uncut sheet prefix EAX and the *MD replacement. :D
