2022 Toonie
2022 Toonie
Please bear with me as I am brand new to the coin-collecting world. I was recently given a couple of bags and boxes, of mostly Canadian coins some older and some obviously newer. One that jumped out at me is a 2022 Canadian $2 coin and the outer ring is almost black. Is this a keeper or should I just spend it? Should I just go through them and take the questionable coins to a coin shop in my area and hope for the best? Any input is appreciated. Thanks

It's a keeper and the outer ring is black in commemoration of Queen Elizabeth, as she died in 2022. They are somewhat hard to find, even though thrre wee, I think, 5 million minted, but many people held on the them in hopes th prices will rise.

Got two of the "black" twoonies today in my change at Tim's.
Pleasant surprise.

I'm an old fool.
The odds of getting two in random change are miniscule.
They must have cracked a roll.
I should have walked back in and bought up as many as I could.

Although most people are keeping those, I don’t think that once they have been circulated the value will go
up too much over face. You can buy uncirculated ones for 4 dollars. Too many people ( myself included)
bought special wrapped rolls from the RCM when they first came out so there are many in MS condition.

I had bought a couple rolls too, but I have never gotten one in my change.
