Hi,
I have an 1862 Nova Scotia 1 cent coin that is part of a collection of coins I've inherited. Please could you give me an idea of what grade it is?

I'd say high VF with environmental damage. Don't think that it would make XF .. but a real nice, scarce coin worth in the hundreds retail.

Thank you Bill, I really appreciated you casting your expert eye over it. Is there anything I can do to prevent further oxidation?

You can give it an acetone bath/dip and a little gentile picking with a toothpick or hawthorn/rose thorn. You can get it at any home depot or Canadian Tire, etc. It is the same as women's fingernail polish remover, but that stuff usually has other crap in it. Better to use the regular acetone ..and it's infinitely cheaper at home depot that a drug or women's store. Don't "scrub" the coin with any kind of brush. Last thing you do is pat dry with distilled water.
