I acquired an actual 1964 dot penny from a collection a while ago. (It's the one shown on this site and not the fake ones you see pawned on Ebay.)
It's approx ms 63-64 as it's very nice except for a small patch of die scratches in the field and minor mint damage.
Anyways.. I get varied opinions on this coin from "it's very valuable" to "it's not a real variety." I have seen a few real ones that have sold for $100 on ebay but none of those had been graded. Questions: Why are the prices so high on this site? And Is it even worth getting graded? - as I don't know what grading company would even recognize the variety.
Any extra info about this coin would be appreciated.
I can post a photo later if there is actual interest is viewing the coin itself..
cheers.

You'll find it hard to get a response without a photo. A dot on any of the cents is not a "variety", but rather an error. They are all die chips and not something put there by the mint. It will cost you far more to certify it than it will ever be worth ... many times more. Just put it in a holder and keep it for conversation. If it has surface scratches and "
mint damage", there's no way that it can ever be a 63.

Well, someone is going to come to the harsh realization that he paid $275 too much for a coin and someone else's opinion.

Well, some selling prices on ebay, and even more so hibid auctions are shocking me, but the old saying "it's worth whatever someone's willing to pay" rings true.
