In 1996, the Deutsche Nickel in Germany produced 10 million preassembled planchets for the Royal Canadian Mint to be able to produce the first 60 million 2-dollars coins. German planchet 1996 2-dollar coins have lines across the ring with a dull/matte finish instead. It is much easier to identify them when still uncirculated.
